Appears in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1884), later republished as 1000 Fiddle Tunes. A version recorded by Cape Breton fiddler Winston "Scotty" Fitzgerald is most likely responsible for spreading this tune throughout the Maritimes. The notation for a version played by Francis MacDonald is in The Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island.
