Eastern Canada

The West Point Reel is widely played in Prince County. It may be named for the small community of West Point, situated on the southwestern coast of Prince County near the town of O'Leary.

Some fiddlers refer to the tune as QuƩbec Reel, suggesting that it may derive from the QuƩbecois fiddling tradition. If so, it may have come to PEI via broadcast in the 1930s or 40s from CHNC radio, New Carlisle, QuƩbec.

A version of this tune as played by Joseph Doucette is in Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island.
