In many early collections such as The Gow Collection, The Gow Repository, The Athole Collection, and Kerr's Merry Melodies, this tune is printed in the key of C. It is played in the key of D on Cape Breton, and PEI, and is frequently played in medley following the strathspey "Athole Brose."
