KP: Were you born on a farm?

HD: Yes.

KP: What kind of farm?

HD: Just mixed farming. It was mostly all mixed farming at that time on the Island.

KP: And what were the things that were on the farm?

HD: Well there was milk cows, cattle of all kinds, pigs, and horses, sheep, and hens, that's about it.

KP: Did they grow crops?

HD? Oh yes, mixed crops. There'd be potatoes, turnips, mangles, turnips, wheat and oats, and of course hay.

KP: What are mangles?

HD: They're something like a beet. They're used for cattle feed, mostly.
