KP: Were people talking about forerunners in your time?


HM: Oh yeah there were lots of forerunners.


KP: Can you tell me about what forerunners are?


HM: My uncle Josie was down visitin' with his Aunt down in Bayfield, not far away. And comin' home he took a short cut, he came up through a field. And he heard hammerin' at the next door neighbors' place, and heard nails drawn, somebody drawin' nails. And he come up behind, he didn't see anybody and he carried on home. And a few days afterwards the old chap there died, and they took the – They had a storm door on, and they didn't have hinges on it they had it nailed on. And he un-nailed it, took the nails out of the storm door and they laid it on a couple of benches, to lay him out, what they called the coal boards, so the undertaker would come and prepare. That's what he heard, that's a forerunner.
