Speakers:

GM – George MacPhee
KP – Curator Ken Perlman

KP You were telling us before a story about a fellow with one arm who used to come over to your house.

GM Oh, yeah. That was the old feller that lived over at my place here [MacPhee's current residence] years ago. He used to walk over for a bucket of water. His well was dry, eh. He'd come over and my mother –You know she wouldn't make tea right when he'd right come in. But he'd be in a while he'd start tuning [singing a tune]. He had a certain tune he used to tune. And When you heard that, you knew he wanted a cup of tea. Mom used to put the tea pot on when she heard that tune.

KP What was that tune? You said you could play it on the fiddle.

GM I'll see if I can remember it. It's an old tune; I never hear anybody playing it.

George MacPhee Plays Tune Once Whistled by Jim Carter

GM He used to tune it pretty fast, too. And when we were kids we used to try to step dance to it. And every time he'd come over he'd tune that tune. And he used to sing quite a bit to us too when we were kids. He was a nice old man.
