WL – Warren Leard

KP: 1925. And I was told you own a mill, a flour mill.

WL: Yes, I have the only mill left on Prince Edward Island. That's a custom flour mill. We do grinding for the farmers, and I'm the third generation. My father, he ground with stones. I can remember them doing away with the stones. But in my time it was a steel roller mill. Our mill is - It left Toronto, ours is a Canadian Mill, and it was manufactured in 1904. And we still have it in the same building.

WL: There's be people coming to the mill, like, from all the surrounding areas, would play music and we'd have a little time. Then bring them in the house and they'd play some music for us. Elmer's came up. He used to be a farmer and Elmer used to come in, and several others.

KP: When would they come in? At night?

WL: No, it would be probably after we'd do the work for them. We'd take a little time, invite them in for a cup of tea: a few tunes, have a little talk with them, and invite them back, and then they'd come back again sometimes.
