RC – Robert Crane
RC: I played with my Dad for a lot of weddings. Oh, the old fashioned weddings was great. One weddin' him and I played when I was only young. And he was rakin' hay with the old horse and rake, and I was kylin' hay in the field right at the barn. This big Joe Kennedy from St. Teresa's drove in, wanted us to go play for this weddin'. "I don't think we can go, Joe." Of course he kept coaxin' and coaxin'. "No, I don't think we can go." And after a while Joe reached inside of his shirt and pulled out a big full quart, "Try a taste of that, Ward." So then he turned around to me, my father and he said, "What do you think Bob, will we go?" "Alright, we'll go." It was before dark we landed down there in Cardigan. And we played till about 4 o'clock in the mornin', and drank rum all night. But they took him into the pantry, all them old houses had pantries them times, they had steak and chicken, anything you wanted to eat was there. Eat all you want. We weren't the only ones going in to eat our fill there. That kind of helped to hold up the liquor. And you know what pay we got? We got home at the gate, it was 4 o'clock in the mornin' at the end of the driveway, and he handed out a quart of rum, about three quarter full.
