A widely played tune tune throughout PEI, Walkin' Uptown is also quite popular among fiddlers from a number of other eastern North American traditions. It resembles an early-20th century pop song in its style of composition, but not much further information about the tune has been forthcoming.

An early appearance in print for Walkin' Uptown was in "Mom" Ruth's Pioneer Western Folk Tunes (1948). Viola "Mom" Ruth was a well-known Arizona contest fiddler.

Notation for Harry Lecky's version of Walkin' Uptown is in Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island.
