Silver & Gold

Kind of Tune
set tune
Place of Origin
Not Known, probably North America

This melody is played by older fiddlers all across PEI. The style of the melody evokes an early 20th century popular song, but this line of inquiry has not yet panned out. Don Messer seems to have been one of the first musicians both to record and publish the tune, under the title Silver & Gold Two-Step.

Notation for this tune as played by Johnny Joe & Phonsey Chaisson is in Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island.
