Jenny Dang the Weaver is widely played in the eastern half of Prince Edward Island.
One of the tune's first appearances in print was in Neil Stewart's A Collection of the Newest & Best Reels, or Country Dances, for Violin [. . .] (1761). It subsequently appeared in The Gow Repository (1799), John Surenne's The Dance Music of Scotland, Kerr's Merry Melodies (1875), the Athole Collection (1884), and the Skye Collection (1887). Angus Allan Gillis of Cape Breton recorded a version of the tune for Celtic Records in the 1930s.
